Renew The Language

Learners as Teachers

One method of language revitalization is investing in Dakota language teacher development. Our apprenticeship program is a multi-faceted approach that supports individuals with: formal Dakota language learning through partner, University of Minnesota Language Department, apprenticeship with master or elder speakers, experiential activities, learner immersion and hands on teaching experiences. Currently programming is supported by the Self Development of Peoples Fund through the Presbytery Snod of Lakes and Prairies, the Blandin Foundation, the Granite Falls Bank, the Upper Sioux Community, the Seventh Generation Funn and the AmeriCorps program through the Minnesota Alliance with Youth.
