In the past, people who wanted to learn Dakota, had to move to the cities to take courses at the UM. Didn’t have access in communities without moving. Since then, a partnership has evolved between Dakota Wicohan and the Univeristy of MN twin cities campus – Dakota Language Department. Last year, students had to learn via ITV or Skype. Since then, a computer program, developed by the U, UMConnect has provided Dakota language learning within the comfort of a learner’s home.
